About the work
Sweet Recall draws on the Freckle chocolate, a coloured sugar dot-covered chocolate disc. The reference is direct: the seat becomes a field of wool felt balls, colour-specified by the artist and custom-fabricated before being hand-sewn into place. The curved metal frame remains recognisably mid-century, tying it to domestic life in the era when the chocolate sweet appeared in the Australian psyche. Pastel pink legs and felt ball feet complete the object without softening its structural clarity.
Origin & Transformation
The stool was rescued from a Sydney home. A new seat base was constructed with new padding. A custom-commissioned wool felt ball mat, with colours selected by the artist, was hand-sewn to a fabric layer before being attached to the seat base. The metal legs were reconditioned and spray-painted in pastel pink. Additional felt balls were fitted to the legs as floor protectors.
Care notes
Light: keep out of direct sunlight. UV from windows will fade the natural dyes in the felt over time; if placed near a window, consider UV-filtering film or glass.
Cleaning: do not use moisture, chemical sprays, or solvents on any surface. The felt balls are natural wool and should be vacuumed with care using a soft plastic attachment only, no brush head. Minimise rubbing of the felt surface; wool fibres may become loose and mat with repeated friction.
Legs: the pastel pink paint finish can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
Environment: maintain stable humidity and temperature. Avoid proximity to heaters, air conditioning vents, and kitchens. Wool absorbs odour permanently.
