About the work
Peacock Chair begins with the authority of the chair's own frame. Each carved detail was treated individually, allowing the surface to accumulate through colour, trim and wax. Hand-embroidered peacock-feather buttons, tassels and upholstery details give the work its display structure without disguising the original armchair beneath it. The result is an object of ceremony and excess, held in a private collection.
Origin & Transformation
The chair was commissioned by its eventual owner, found with seat collapsed and structure in disrepair. In the studio it was stripped back, structurally stabilised, and re-upholstered. The frame was then worked surface by surface through multiple phases: paint, detailed embroidery, upholstery and trim application. The process was additive rather than fixed in advance; each element responded to what was already there. A finishing coat of wax was applied to the frame.
